Hi everyone! I am Ms Hui Jun Lee and I am here today to talk about Exceptions to the “To” + Base/Infinitive Verb Form Rule!
Now, you may have heard the general rule that any verb that comes after “to” should be written in base form or is an infinitive verb. These two terms are essentially the same thing in that the verb does not come with an -s, -ed, or -ing ending. This form is also typically what you will find as the main verb when looking a verb up in the dictionary. Let’s take a look at some exceptions to the “to” + base/infinitive verb form now!
The next time you see such phrases, remember that the “to” + infinitive/base form rule does not apply to them! Can you think of other exceptions? Do share with us in the comments section. Till next time, take care! (:
