Mentorship Programme
If you cannot see where you are going, ask someone who has been there before you.
J Loren Norris
In Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey, the character Mentor was a close friend of Odysseus who was tasked to oversee his household and act as teacher to his son while he fought in the Trojan War. The word mentor has since then evolved to refer to a person who gives a younger or less experienced person help and advice over a period of time, especially at work or school (as defined by Cambridge Dictionary), and it is no coincidence that terms like tutor, adviser, coach, confidante and role model are all synonymous with it.
The LBM Mentorship Programme officially started in 2025 and has been specially crafted by our team of mighty mentors to induct new teachers who join the organisation. By forming a dynamic relationship that is based on trust, respect and honest communication with their individual mentees, each mentor hopes to provide support, guidance and knowledge to help their mentees attain professional as well as personal growth.
Mentorship Programme
- assist new teachers in assimilating into LBM’s organisational culture and being in line with LBM’s vision and mission
- help new teachers grow in their technical competencies
- guide new teachers in embodying the values expected of each employee – accountability, respect and integrity
- one-on-one mentoring over a minimum period of 6 months
- at least one Mentor-Mentee check-in session per month
In line with the programme goals, mentors will also have the following responsibilities to help new teachers in their career development:
- Lesson briefings
For the first month, a mentor goes through the scheme of work and shares important tips on how to conduct the lesson for the week.
- Classroom observations and co-teaching, including feedback and follow-up
A new teacher will sit in and observe a mentor’s class(es), and will co-teach a short segment in one of these classes. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to reflect on and discuss these observations as well as the co-teaching segment.
- Observation of Mentee’s lesons, including assignment checks
This involves a mentor sitting in and observing one of their mentee’s classes, with feedback provided in terms of lesson management, teaching competency as well as classroom management. The mentor will also check class assignments and give feedback on the mentee’s accuracy and consistency in marking these assignments.
Grow with us
Developing our teacher’s potential
We believe in fostering a culture of continuous learning, which is why we’ve established a comprehensive mentorship programme for our teachers. This programme facilitates the sharing of knowledge and innovative teaching approaches, ensuring our educators are well-equipped to guide our students from Primary 1 to Secondary 4. In turn, we hope to cultivate a similar dedication to learning in our students.
