The Write Recipe

Plan for Success

Good writers plan. They think through what they want to write before they actually write.

Before writing a story, some good writers may write their plans down or draw a mind map.

Sometimes, they SEEM like they are not planning but actually, they already know what is necessary for a good English Composition (due to numerous practice!) and have formed a mental plan in their minds.

It all starts with a plan. With a good plan, half the battle is won before you even start writing.

Write Recipe Review
“This is our first online course and I am so glad that Jovan had found it easy to follow and also enjoyed the learning as well! After the first few videos, I can already see that Jovan is able to apply some brainstorming tips (on the given pictures) while reading the questions. He is also engaged by the fun activities and games in the course. If you are hoping to have a better understanding of what are essential to think through in planning, this will be a course that I recommend. ”

How to set your story up for success!

And we want to share with you, what we are confident will make a difference, “The Write Recipe: How to set your English composition up for success”.

We are going to cover all the ways that we use to plan for our English composition and we are going to show your children exactly how we do it.

This course will be entirely focused on “Planning and Brainstorming”.

Through video tutorials, worksheets, quizzes, and games, it is going to be both an enriching and engaging experience for your children as they learn how to plan and what to look out for in setting up the content of their stories.

  1. have an overly simple problem with only one main character

  2. do not have an introduction or build-up that is relevant to the problem

  3. have events that happen too suddenly without a build-up

  4. lack depth e.g.
A boy went to the pool to swim and fell down
A boy went to the pool to practise for a competition. He fell down because he was chasing after his rival who snatched his goggles. Hence, he was unable to take part in the competition.

  5. tend to be filled with gaps that leave readers baffled

  6. lack a problem/ conflict or have a problem that does not have depth

  7. lack a plan or have an overly simplified plan which does not help with the flow of the story

“Shernice has tried several online learning programmes and courses before “The Write Recipe” and this is one of her favorites. The content is rich but not heavy. Mrs Chew is clear in her explanations and the fun activities and games kept her engaged throughout the lessons. In fact, she was so eager to continue the lessons on her own that she did so once she came home from school. The materials and resources given in the package are also useful to help Shernice plan her story. I am glad Shernice had enjoyed the course thoroughly!”
