Ms Su Xin's Profile
Miss Lim’s love for the language began from weekly visits to the library as a child, where she picked up books and disappeared into the literary worlds created by authors. Through reading and writing, she realised she got to expand her knowledge about the world and express herself in the best possible way. Literature and English became subjects she enjoyed in school and her appreciation and love for the English language grew from there. This has helped fuel her motivation to create lessons to help students experience language in the same way she did. She hopes to teach students to use the English language effectively, efficiently and creatively too!
In her teaching stint at MOE, she also worked with students of varying strengths and abilities to support their English learning journey. She has supported students with Dyslexia through the School-based Dyslexia Remediation Programme and created debate enrichment programmes for students to develop their critical thinking and public speaking skills.
She believes in creating a safe and open learning environment for her students, allowing them to embrace a growth mindset, staying curious and open minded about the world they are learning about.
Ms Su Xin's Teacher Spotlight
What inspires you to teach?
Being able to share knowledge about the world we live in is my main motivation when it comes to teaching and the best way to do that is through language. Also, children have naturally curious minds and so much potential for growth. Knowing that I can contribute to that growth and fueling that curiosity is what inspires me to teach.
Why do you love teaching English?
To learn a language well, one needs to be in an immersive environment and I enjoy the process of creating that environment through equal emphasis on reading, writing, speaking and listening. I love to see the process of students applying what they have learnt in the real life as well. Seeing them experience the world, understanding things around them through language is why I love teaching English. I also enjoy sharing lovely stories and opinions about current affairs with my students.
What do you do in your free time?
I love to crochet and read to wind down for the day. I also enjoy messing around in the kitchen, cooking and baking for friends and family. When I have the time, I enjoy solo travelling to new cities yearly! To keep myself mentally and physically healthy, I like to spend time on the mat doing yoga.
