Ms Nuri's Profile
Deciding to pursue teaching as a specialist, she then moved on to writing English lesson packages for an enrichment company and continued to teach in various schools as a freelance educator, specialising in creative writing and oral communication.
Ms Nuri has done volunteer work in education as well, teaching students in Malaysia and the Philippines, to learn more about education in Southeast Asia. She has also further exposed herself to students of diverse backgrounds, teaching mini programmes in international schools in Singapore. Joining the Lil’ But Mighty family is the most recent part of her journey as she continues to deepen her experience in teaching English.
As a teacher, she believes in nurturing self-directed learners who have the drive to be the best versions of themselves, and the curiosity to always seek knowledge without being prompted to. She believes that English language education is anchored by effective communication and active listening, thus, she makes sure that her lessons are always lively with interaction!
Ms Nuri has undergone our in-house Movers and Shakers Teacher Training Programme.
What is it like working at LBM?
Lil’ but Mighty is a warm and fun environment filled with kind and funny people. I love working here! As teachers, we get to learn a lot of new things and be involved in interesting projects, like making videos. Watch Ketchup on English on our YouTube channel, and you’ll know what I mean!
What inspires you to teach?
Great teachers inspire me to teach. I was fortunate enough to have had wonderful teachers in school who have made a difference in my life. I want to do the same for you! I believe education shapes the world we live in.
Why do you love teaching English?
I love reading and have an impossible dream of owning a library of one thousand books! So, you can imagine how deeply I have fallen in love with the English language as I read through the books I have! Mastery of language empowers you to build entire worlds from scratch and capture the attention of any audience. I want my students to have that power!
What do you do in your free time?
Other than reading, I enjoy rock-climbing and making music. Every two weeks or so, my husband and I would go to the rock wall at Stadium and climb for hours. He’s much better at it than I am, though. Currently, I am working on producing a few songs to make my very first EP album. I’m not very talented in music, but who says you have to have talent to enjoy what you’re doing? I hope you find something you love and put your heart into it too!
