What is it like working at LBM?
LBM has an environment which is nurturing, family-oriented and comfortable to work in. The management and senior teaching staff ensure that all teachers are well-equipped with LBM’s teaching strategies and always updated on the latest trend or changes in the education syllabus. This gives me a lot of confidence teaching at LBM as I know that our young and budding learners will grow up with us to be mighty learners!
What inspires you to teach?
As the quote by Robert Heinlein goes, “When one teaches, two learn”. Teaching reinforces what I learn. Along with teaching comes clarity in my thoughts that delivers knowledge to the keenest of minds. I am heartened when students comprehend what has been taught and take away that knowledge with them. It is amazing when they come to love what they learn as they gain confidence in themselves gradually. The light bulb moment of theirs is my share of satisfaction.
Why do you love teaching English?
English is a universal language and as a medium of communication used in many parts of the world, it conveys ideas across boundaries. As a Singaporean, I am thankful to have a chance to be bilingual in our education system. That much said, a good grasp of the English language empowers me to articulate my intentions and enhances communication with people from all walks of life. Understanding the concepts of English with its numerous grammatical exceptions can be mind-boggling at times but it challenges me to resolve those uncertainties and break them down into simpler terms for our young learners.
What do you do in your free time?
During my free time, I like to go outdoors, chill at new places of interest or explore different cuisines with my friends. Turkish cuisine is one that I managed to explore and came to love it too.
Singapore is very small but still has hidden or rare places where Singaporeans might want to explore. Last year, I finally went to the last “kampong” of our sunny island after wanting to go there for some time. It is at Buangkok and seems far away from where I live. However, it was nostalgic for me while I was venturing into the little village. When I was young, I used to live occasionally in a “kampong” where my maternal grandparents resided. The houses and the rough, muddy or gravel paths that I walked on are part of my memories that resurfaced again that day. Though there were no air-conditioners and I was walking under the sweltering sun, I enjoyed myself on that trip!
