Teacher Vani was very patient with me throughout the entire journey, from the time i told her that i wanted to retake my o levels to the end of o levels, she would check in on me and encourage me to focus on my o levels. What inspires you to teach?
Teaching wasn’t always on my radar. I started teaching purely as a way to support myself while putting myself through university, thinking it was just a temporary gig. But something unexpected happened – I found myself genuinely looking forward to each class. Watching my students progress, helping them break through challenges, and seeing their faces light up when they finally got it – it felt incredible. That’s when it hit me: I wasn’t just teaching for a paycheck, I actually loved it. Seeing them improve and knowing I played a role in their success gave me a sense of fulfilment I hadn’t experienced before. What started as a job became a passion, and it’s been that way ever since. Now, every time I walk into the classroom, I’m reminded that this is what I was meant to do.
Why do you love teaching English?
I love teaching school students English because it’s about more than just mastering a language – it’s about equipping them with essential skills that will shape their academic and personal growth. Watching them grasp grammar rules, expand their vocabulary, and refine their exam skills is incredibly rewarding. English is the foundation for so many subjects, and when my students improve in these areas, I know it’ll help them in everything they do. Whether it’s crafting better essays, understanding exam questions, or simply communicating more confidently, I love being part of their journey to becoming stronger students. Seeing them apply these skills and succeed, both in the classroom and beyond, is what makes teaching English so fulfilling for me.
What do you do in your free time?
In my free time, I love to embrace life with my family and our two energetic dogs, who bring joy and adventure to our days. We often embark on fun outings together, enjoying brunch at a charming café where our pups feast on exciting treats. Afterward, it’s off to the beach, where they joyfully play ball and soak up the sun while we relax and soak in the atmosphere. Cooking is another passion that fills my time, as I love experimenting with new recipes, creating everything from comforting family favourites to exciting dishes inspired by different cultures. Sharing these meals with loved ones creates wonderful memories and brings us all closer together. Travelling is also a favourite pastime of mine which offers me the chance to explore new places, savour diverse cuisines, and immerse myself in vibrant cultures. Each adventure is a chance to discover something new and enrich my life with fresh perspectives. It’s all about those joyful moments, whether it’s a family gathering, a beach day, or an unforgettable travel experience, that make life truly rich and fulfilling!
