Ms Jenani is an English teacher at Lil’ but Mighty, known for her enthusiasm and dedication to making learning enjoyable.

She holds a Bachelor of Communications degree from the Singapore University of Social Sciences, which has equipped her with strong communication skills and a foundation for effective teaching.

In her previous role, she worked with students of different levels, which allowed her to develop a flexible teaching approach. This experience has enabled her to adapt her lesson plans to suit the varied learning styles and needs of her students, ensuring that her classes are engaging and accessible to all.

What inspires you to teach?
As a teacher, I can positively influence a child’s way of thinking or doing. I can help students believe in themselves and their ability to learn. Having someone to look up to and to guide them down the right path of life makes a difference to a child’s life. I have been inspired by my English teacher, who made great efforts to get to know her students individually and help them not only in their academics but in their personal lives as well. She cared about the well-being of every student, and she never failed to brighten up the classroom with her smile.  

Maya Angelou, the  American memoirist, poet, and civil rights activist has a quote that resonates with me:  “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

Why do you love teaching English?
I love teaching English because by engaging students to choose their words carefully, they are able to make their stories come alive even without them realising it!

‘The English language is so elastic that you can find another word to say the same thing.’ -Mahatma Gandhi.

I love this quote because it shows that learning English is a never-ending journey full of fun and exciting possibilities! Let’s experience the joy of learning together!

What do you do in your free time?
I love spending time travelling to lesser-known cities/countries! I have a keen interest in travelling to places that are not as straight forward to access! I have been to Yogyakarta (Indonesia), Sapa (Vietnam), and Manali (Himachel Pradesh, India) before these cities became well-known on social media. My next trip hopefully is to Paro, Bhutan, in hopes of seeing the Tigers Nest Monastery! Aside from travelling, I love spending time with my furry friends and participating in meal distributions as part of volunteering.
