Reviews for Teacher Kyria
With a double major in Language and Literature and a minor in Criminology, I was introduced to the world of linguistics and how language shapes thought and expression. This background has provided me with a strong foundation, which I often draw upon when guiding students on their learning journey.
I have nearly a decade of experience teaching English to students from kindergarten to upper secondary levels, across both MOE and international schools. Working with such diverse learners has taught me that no two children are the same. I believe that patience and creativity are essential, and I enjoy creating lessons that are both engaging and meaningful, making learning a fun and enjoyable experience.
I see language as a craft that can be nurtured over time, with no single fixed path to mastery. English is both beautiful and empowering, and I often use children’s literature to spark curiosity and open new doors for my students. Reading, I believe, is the foundation of language learning. By applying English to both real-world contexts and examinations, I aim to equip my students with skills that extend beyond the classroom.
What inspires you to teach?
I am inspired by the spark in a child’s eyes when a concept finally makes sense—whether it is unpacking a challenging passage or learning to transform sentences with confidence. Watching students grow in their ability to express themselves, both in writing and speech, is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching. What keeps me motivated is seeing their steady progress over the years as they develop both academically and linguistically.
Why do you love teaching English?
I love teaching English because it is a language that is both beautiful and empowering. Its richness lies not only in its grammar and structure but also in the stories and ideas it carries. Sharing this with my students excites me, as I get to nurture their appreciation for the language and guide them in using it meaningfully, both in the classroom and beyond.
What do you do in your free time?
In my free time, I enjoy reading across different genres, with classic literature and crime novels being my favourites. I also keep active through Pilates, and I treasure moments with my cat, Hinari, whose playful and goofy antics never fail to brighten my day.
