Ms Clarie's Teacher Spotlight

What inspires you to teach?

I love engaging in conversations with my students! Also, I find it very rewarding to not only help my students improve their grasp of the English language, but also to love it too. It is always heartening to hear from students who have developed a sense of passion for learning.

Why do you love teaching English?

I love teaching English because it is such a versatile subject, especially when you move up the levels. Every grammar or vocabulary point is an etymology lesson, and languages have always been very diverse and vibrant. To be a part of that is intensely rewarding. At the secondary level, students are at the age when they are introduced to current affairs and global perspectives. I have always found it engaging to hear their developing viewpoints during discussions and to guide them in articulating their arguments effectively.

What do you do in your free time?

I have recently been getting into yoga, and have been loving the time I get to meditate and feel more in touch with myself. I also love reading leisurely, especially about niche topics. You can be sure to find me at my favourite second-hand bookstores. Leisure time with my friends is also a must!
