Ms Sharon’s child-centric approach to teaching English makes her lessons fun-filled and easy to follow along. “Learning is more than absorbing facts; it is acquiring understanding.” – William Arthur Ward. She loves keeping her students on their toes by dropping questions out of thin air to test their understanding. Ms Sharon believes that learning takes place when her students are actively applying what they have learnt boldly. She hopes to inspire her students to have the thirst for knowledge that goes beyond the classroom.
What inspires you to teach?
My teachers going the extra mile for me ignited my ambition as a teacher to impart knowledge in the same impactful way they did. They have instilled in me a pearl of wisdom, which I still uphold to this day: enjoy the learning process. I relish the connection with my students, and it brings me an ineffable sense of joy when they grasp challenging concepts and steer towards greater heights in their learning. Witnessing my students’ continuous growth fuels me to hone my craft as a teacher, modelling a lifelong love for learning.
Why do you love teaching English?
English is a language that is both diverse and perplexing at the same time, and I find that exhilarating, as there is no end to the usage of English! English really comes to life through storytelling, and I thoroughly enjoy poring over my students’ compositions. My heart swells with pride when students can articulate their thoughts and ideas more coherently and become better communicators as a result.
What do you do in your free time?
I enjoy losing myself in the world of dystopian fiction, whether it be through books or movies, daydreaming, and snuggling my son endlessly. My favourite thing to do when I have free time is to lounge at the beach with my husband and son. Listening to the gentle lapping of water against the shore and the cool, salty sea breeze caressing my skin allows me to unwind from work and appreciate the small pleasures life has to offer.
